This section of the poster is meant to provide an overview of care
that is universally accepted and not meant to replace agency specific
policies. Specific program related instructions are left up to the
discretion of the renal professional.
The questions addressed are:
- Will people be able to see this
catheter?
- Can the catheter fall out?
- How long will I have this catheter?
Care of the hemodialysis catheter/what
to report to the team
- check the exit site for infections
daily
- make sure the caps are on when
the catheter is not in use
- keep a dressing on the exit site
- do not pull or tug on the catheter
- talk to the team about anything
that can get the catheter wet
- if the catheter falls out
- bleeding
