This is a 12" x 18" large font, full
colour poster addressing some of the more common issues surrounding
blood pressure control in renal disease.
The poster is written as a general overview and can be utilised
in a predialysis, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis setting.
The writer has attempted to provide an overview of the concept without
overwhelming the learner.
The poster is divided into three
sections:
- Possible reasons for hypertension
in renal disease
- Introduction to antihypertensives
- Introduction to how antihypertensives
work on the body
Possible reasons for hypertension
in renal disease
This section of the poster strives
to introduce the concept that both hormonal control and excessive
fluid influence blood pressure in renal disease.
A graphic yet simplistic presentation
is made of the role of the kidney in blood pressure. The following
questions are addressed:
- Why do I have high blood pressure?
- How does this chemical messenger
cause my blood pressure to rise?
- What is high blood pressure called?
- What can happen if my blood pressure
is too high?
Introduction to antihypertensives
This section of the poster strives
to introduce the topic of antihypertensives. The need to discuss
side effects of any antihypertensive medications with the Nephrologist
or Renal Pharmacist is emphasised.
The following questions are asked:
- What are medications to lower
my blood pressure called?
- Are there side effects from antihypertensive
medications?
Introduction to how antihypertensives
work on the body
The goal of this section of the poster
is to introduce the idea that antihypertensives work in different
ways:
- To stop your kidney from releasing
Renin
- To make your heart beat a little
differently
- To make your blood vessels relax
and open a little
- They may also affect how some
of your body responds to messages from your nerves
The poster is laminated with a 5-mm
laminate to allow for easy cleaning.
It is appropriate for use by renal
professionals in a predialysis, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis,
clinic or office setting.
Larger or smaller posters are available
as a special order.
