This is a 12" x 18"
large font, full colour poster.
This poster addresses
some of the more common questions surrounding anaemia in renal failure.
This poster is separated
into three sections:
- Pathophysiology of anaemia in
renal failure
- Symptoms of anaemia
- Treatment of anaemia in renal
failure
Each of the sections
is accompanied by simplistic graphic illustrations.
Pathophysiology of
anaemia in renal failure
This section attempts
to address in simplistic terms the role of the kidney in Erythropoietin
production.
This section also briefly
examines other factors that may contribute to anemai such as lack
of iron in the diet, blood loss during hemodialysis and waste product
accumulation in the body.
The following questions
address these topics:
- Working kidneys help to make red
blood cells. How do they do that?
- What happens when my kidney does
not tell my bones to make red blood cells?
- What else can cause me to have
anaemia?
Symptoms of anaemia
This section does not
attempt to be a comprehensive description of the effects of anaemia
on the human physiology but provides a visual and graphic description
of the more common symptoms such as tiredness, shortness of breath
and feeling cold.
The question is asked:
"How will I feel if I have anaemia?" and the response is presented
both verbally and graphically.
Treatment of anaemia
in renal failure
The intent in this section
of the poster is to present the common treatments for anaemia while
allowing for individual treatment protocols.
Erythropoietin injections
and iron (oral and intravenous) are the treatments discussed. In
reference to this the following questions are asked:
- What can I do about anaemia?
- When I take this injection, will
I feel better right away?
- Are there side effects to this
medication?
- Why is iron important?
- How will I feel if I take iron
pills?
- What kind of injection will I
have?
- Is there anything else that I
could be asked to do for anaemia?
The poster is laminated
with a 5-mm laminate to allow for easy cleaning.
It is appropriate for
use by renal professionals in a predialysis, hemodialysis, peritoneal
dialysis, clinic or office setting.
Larger or smaller posters
are available as a special order.
