This is a 12" x 18" large font, full
colour poster addressing some of the more common issues surrounding
dialysis adequacy.
The poster is written as a general
overview and can be utilised in a hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
setting.
The writer has attempted to provide
an overview of the concept without overwhelming the learner.
The poster is arranged into four
areas of discussion:
- The blood tests that examine waste
products
- A description of urea and factors
influencing urea levels
- A description of creatinine and
factors influencing creatinine levels
- Dialysis adequacy and possible
changes in treatment that may be recommended
The blood tests that examine waste
products
This section of the poster attempts
to present the need for measuring dialysis adequacy and introduces
the terms PRU and Kt/V. There are three questions asked in this
portion of the poster:
- Is there a test that can tell
me about the amount of waste material in my body?
- What do these tests tell me?
- What tests do I look at?
A description of urea and factors
influencing urea levels
This section of the poster does not
attempt to be a comprehensive description of all of the factors
affecting BUN levels but strives to augment teaching as it relates
to dialysis adequacy.
The following questions are presented
with graphic illustrations:
- What is urea?
- What else can cause my urea level
to change?
- Is there a blood test to see
if I am eating enough protein?
- Is there anything else that can
cause my urea to change?
- If so many things effect my urea,
is it helpful to look at urea at all?
A description of creatinine and
factors influencing creatinine levels
This
section of the poster does not attempt to be a comprehensive description
of all of the factors affecting creatinine levels but strives to
augment teaching as it relates to dialysis adequacy.
The following questions are presented
with graphic illustrations
- What is creatinine?
- Is there anything else that can
cause my creatinine to rise?
Dialysis adequacy and possible
changes in treatment that may be recommended
Again,
the goal of this section of the poster is to present a brief overview
that will augment previous teaching efforts of a difficult and complex
topic.
The following questions are presented
with graphic illustrations:
- How do I know how much of the
waste products are taken out of my blood by dialysis?
- What can I change if the waste
products are too high?
The poster is laminated with a 5-mm
laminate to allow for easy cleaning.
It is appropriate for use by renal
professionals in a predialysis, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis,
clinic or office setting.
Larger or smaller posters are available
as a special order.
